They are sharp and ready to use. This type features the spring loaded hinge joint and a handle flip latch lock to hold the shears closed for safer storage. The spring is concealed, and works very well. Adjustable hinge joint thread nut/bolt works great. These are designed to cut through small chicken bones and similar applications.
