Item Description:
Up for sale is a highly collectible lot of two (2) authentic, original vintage black-and-white military snapshots from Bulgaria, dating to the pre-WWII interwar era. These photos capture a large gathering of military personnel or officers associated with a physical training, gymnastic, or sporting division, featuring a large motivational slogan banner hanging prominently in the background.
Photo Details:
• Photo 1 (Banquet Table): Shows the group gathered down a long dining table inside a large gymnasium or hall, with miniature tableside flag pennants visible. The slogan banner hangs across the back wall. Features a classic deckle edge.
• Photo 2 (Group Portrait with Swords & Flags): An exceptional group portrait showing over twenty personnel dressed in white summer tunics and peaked caps. Several officers are holding dress sabers/swords, while soldiers in the front row display small tricolor desk flags. Features a classic deckle edge.
Slogan & Historical Context:
The large banner in the background prominently features the famous Slavic athletic movement slogan written in pre-1945 Bulgarian orthography:
• Text reads: "ЗДРАВО ТЪЛО - ЗДРАВЪ ДУХЪ"
• Translation: "Healthy Body - Healthy Spirit" (the classic "Mens sana in corpore sano" motto).
• Context: This phrase was the primary motto of the iconic "Yunak" (Юнак) Bulgarian gymnastic and sports societies, which maintained strong historical ties with military training programs during the royal era. The backs of both photographs are completely blank.
Condition:
Both photographs are original vintage items in very good condition with strong contrast, clear historical details, and minimal handling wear along the classic deckle borders. There are no major creases, tears, or pinholes present on either print. Please view the high-resolution images closely to evaluate specific condition details.
An excellent addition for collectors specializing in royal Bulgarian militaria, historic Slavic sporting societies, Yunak gymnastics movement history, or vintage Balkan daily-life photography.
