This incredible 13.8 lb, 11-inch diameter mortoniceras (drakeoceras) maximum ammonite has a lot of the interior spikes preserved. A well-preserved outer keel is also visible around the outside of the ammonite.
Mercer Brugler took special care preparing this specimen after finding the fossil encased in matrix at a Justin, Texas construction site in the Timberbrook neighborhood. The Fort Worth formation is the geological formation where this fossil was found.
