This 5” diameter mortoniceras species ammonite (stand included w/purchase) was found just southwest of Crowley, Texas in a local Johnson County creek following a 6” deluge of rain in July 2025. The creek rose approximately 8-10 feet and clearly uncovered some ancient treasures.
I prepared this ammonite using my dremel 290 to remove matrix. No repairs (glue, filling cracks, paint, etc) were made to any part of the ammonite. Both sides are prepped and give two different views depending upon preference.

This ammonite has a single layer of polyurethane applied to the exterior to highlight nice sutures and natural color otherwise obscured.
Its estimated age of 90-100 million years old places it in the age of dinosaurs, when a vast sea known as the western interior seaway covered the middle of the North American continent.
Some info about my pricing: I typically sell unprepped mortoniceras ammonites to dealers for $7/inch. A nice prepped mortoniceras can go for as much as $20 per inch for larger ones. You’ll see some of my ammonites far cheaper than $7 per inch, usually due to how worn down or damaged the ammonite might be. I still want those ammonites to be good VALUE for the ORDERS OR SEPARATE ITEMS PURCHASED BY THE SAME BUYER WILL TYPICALLY BE GROUPED TOGETHER AND I WILL PASS ON SHIPPING SAVINGS TO THE CUSTOMER AS AN IMMEDIATE REFUND FOLLOWING PAYMENT AND THE PREPARATION OF THE PACKAGE.
