This 5” diameter mortoniceras species ammonite was found just southwest of Crowley, Texas in a local Johnson County creek in May 2026 in mixed Weno/Fort Worth formation area of the creek.
It has a beautiful display side while the backside also shows nice sutures. (SEE PHOTOS FOR COMPLETE VIEW).
I have discounted this specimen based on the small missing piece visible on the backside, which was a natural occurrence.

I prepared this ammonite using a scribe to remove matrix.

Its estimated age of 90-100 million years old places it in the age of dinosaurs, when a vast sea known as the western interior seaway covered the middle of the North American continent.
Some info about my pricing: I typically sell unprepped mortoniceras ammonites to dealers for $7/inch. A nice prepped mortoniceras can go for as much as $20 per inch for larger ones. You’ll see some of my ammonites far cheaper than $7 per inch, usually due to how worn down or damaged the ammonite might be.
