Offered for sale is a matching pair of antique 1934 Connecticut commercial vehicle license plates, both displaying the four-digit registration number 9956.

These historic plates feature a light-colored background with contrasting dark blue embossed registration numbers. The word COMMERCIAL appears prominently across the top, with CONN. at the lower left and 1934 at the lower right.

Dating to the Great Depression era, these matching plates are more than 90 years old and represent a surviving piece of Connecticut's early commercial transportation history.

In 1934, Franklin D. Roosevelt was President of the United States, and the country was beginning its recovery from the Great Depression.

Commercial vehicles were essential to businesses, farms, delivery companies, and local transportation services throughout Connecticut and New England.

During the 1930s, states issued specialized registration plates to distinguish commercial vehicles from ordinary passenger automobiles.

These Connecticut plates prominently display the word COMMERCIAL, identifying their original registration classification.

Their four-digit registration number, period metal construction, and distinctive blue-on-light color combination reflect the practical design of commercial vehicle plates from this era.

Today, surviving matching pairs offer collectors a tangible connection to the development of American trucking, commerce, and transportation.

Antique Pre-Owned Condition – Original As-Found Appearance

We prefer to offer our vintage license plates in their original, as-found condition, preserving the natural appearance and character they have acquired over the years. We leave the decision of whether to clean, polish, preserve, or restore these plates entirely to the buyer. This allows collectors to receive the plates in their original condition and determine the level of conservation or restoration they prefer.

These plates show substantial signs of age and previous use, including areas of paint loss, surface oxidation, discoloration, scratches, and general finish wear.

The lower plate exhibits particularly noticeable dark discoloration and weathering across portions of its surface. Both plates retain clearly legible registration numbers and identification markings.

Please carefully review all photographs, including the front and reverse sides of both plates, to evaluate their overall condition, remaining finish, edges, mounting holes, and any age-related imperfections.

We have not cleaned, polished, repainted, refinished, or restored these plates during our ownership. Any previous treatment is unknown.

The exact two 1934 Connecticut commercial license plates numbered 9956 shown in the photographs are the plates you will receive.
