c.1920's ROYCROFT STYLE COPPER ROCKER INK BLOTTER - ART DECO ERA DESK ACCESSORY For Sale

Up for sale is this Antique Roycroft-Style Rocker Ink Blotter.Though the antique desk accessory is unmarked, it is handcrafted from sheet copper in the style of Roycroft's geometric "linear hammered" designs of the 1920s.The aurora brown color andclean linesalso indicate this was likely produced by Roycroft (or one of its offshoots) in East Aurora, NY. Finally, thesmall rounded "acorn" knob in the center was a standard Roycroft fitting on desk accessories the produced during the Art Deco period.
How this was used: Before quick-drying ballpoint pens became standard, writers used dip pens or fountain pens with wet liquid ink. A rocker blotter was held by the central knob and gently rocked across freshly written manuscript pages to absorb excess ink, preventing smudges.A strip of absorbent blotting paper was wrapped tightly around the curved bottom plate.
