These two caps belonged to Canadian Lieutenant John Strathearn “Strathy” Hay of the 67th Artillery CEF. Acquired from his grandson.
Coming from a long line of Canadian prominence, Hay was the grandson of Major John Dunlop Hay and nephew of Sir John Strathearn Hendrie - Former 11th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and President of the Bank of Hamilton.
Strathy himself had plenty of accolades throughout his military and athletic careers. He was aide de camp to Prince Edward during his visit to the Government House in Toronto, 1919. He also played professional rugby and won the Grey Cup with the Toronto Argonauts; and to top it off he competed at the 1920 Antwerp Olympics in the coxed four rowing event.
I truly hope these find a collector who will cherish these treasures as well as the provenance provided.
