Up for sale is a compelling vintage green-glazed ceramic figurine depicting the Mesoamerican Aztec goddess Tlazolteotl (or Ixcuina) in the act of giving birth. This piece is a handcrafted mid-to-late 20th-century artisan replica modeled after the world-famous \"Dumbarton Oaks Birthing Figure\" stone masterpiece.
Fun historical fact: The authentic Dumbarton Oaks sculpture that inspired this replica was famously used as the design basis for the iconic fertility \"Golden Idol\" in the opening sequence of Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark!
Excellent vintage condition with no structural cracks, breaks, or major chips. There is light, natural shelf wear on the unglazed bottom base and minor surface variations typical of handmade Mexican tourist pottery.
