Offered here is an impressive matched pair of vintage cast brass pelican pipe holders / ashtrays, featuring bold sculptural forms and strong Art Deco-inspired styling.
These are not your typical lightweight brass decorations, but rather substantial, purpose-built smoking accessories. Each pelican stands approximately 6.5 inches tall, measures approximately 4.5 inches long, and rests on a base approximately 2.75 inches in diameter. Together, the pair weighs an impressive 3 pounds 10 ounces. Their considerable weight and thick cast construction give them a physical presence that photographs simply cannot fully convey.
Each pelican incorporates a deep, elongated bill that serves as an ash receptacle and pipe rest. The highly stylized design features sweeping vertical bills, geometric webbed feet, ribbed detailing, circular bases, and wonderfully expressive sculptural profiles.
Particularly appealing is the fact that these have remained together as a coordinated opposing pair. Their surfaces display beautifully complementary coloration and naturally developed patina, giving the two pieces a cohesive appearance that would be difficult to duplicate by assembling separately sourced examples.
The pair is unmarked, and no specific maker attribution is being made. Their design, however, exhibits unmistakable Art Deco influence, making them equally compelling as functional smoking accessories or sculptural display pieces.
They retain their aged brass surfaces and patina and have not been polished or refinished. Please see the photographs for the excellent character, casting detail, and overall condition of both pieces.
Whether placed at opposite ends of a cigar table, incorporated into a smoking room or home bar, or simply displayed as vintage brass sculptures, the matched pair offers something that a single example cannot—the opportunity to make these remarkable objects part of the shared smoking experience.
