Wonderful vintage Wolf Creek folk art wooden soldier, dating to 1986.This primitive Americana figure is hand carved and hand painted with a wonderfully aged surface. The soldier wears a pale gray/white uniform with black trim, gold-tone buttons and belt buckle, gray trousers, and a military-style cap. His arms are separately attached with wooden peg construction.The underside retains the Wolf Creek maker’s stamp and is hand marked “MJ 86”, dating the piece to 1986. Wolf Creek is associated with distinctive hand-crafted folk art produced in Iowa during this period; comparable signed Wolf Creek figures from 1984–87 are documented in the current marketplace.
