Set of three Guatemalan Mayan volcanic carved mace heads in various sizes. Each head is handmade from volcanic rock in Pre-Classic Guatemala. The provenance of these pieces adds historical value to the collection, making them unique and culturally meaningful collectibles for enthusiasts of Latin American cultures and ethnicities. Sold as a set only.Measurements: large: 41/2\" tall by 5\" across, medium stone 3\" tall by 41/2\" across, small 3\" tall by 4\" across.Provenance:From my late aunt\'s collection from her travels as an artist during the 1960-1970 in Central America, particularly Guatemala. She and Joan Patten worked together for some time. She met many collectors and artists and built a significant collection of her own. She had permission to explore Mayan ruins and made many pieces of art, rubbings, silk screens, on paper and fabric. She went into ruins in the jungles of the Guatemalan highlands with only a mule train and crew. Working long exhaustive hours and days in the hot and humid climate, she explored and collected while making rubber molds of stelae which she then used to replicate the carvings. All items were brought into the USA prior to 1970.
