I carefully removed the old damaged finish and matched the colors of the deep red hickory stain and finish. The decals were meticulously reproduced from originals and affixed to the refinished handles. The project has been underway for over a year. The original chisel roll was a Woodcraft but had enough damage that I could not salvage it for this offering.
Introduced in 1930, the 720 & 750 line of Hickory Leather Capped Handled Paring and Butt Chisels became famous among Woodworkers as a perfect blend of muscle and finesse. Unlike Metal Capped Tang Chisels that were made for heavy duty blows with metal hammers, the more delicate 750 required a wooden shop mallet. I can recall the scolding I got as a young buck apprentice anytime I was tempted to use a hammer on a 720 or 750 during my formative years, \"hammers are for driving nails, in the cabinet shop, mallets are for chisels.\" The USA Made Stanley 750 was discontinued in 1969 and was revived in 2010 and 2016 for a limited offering of British made chisels with Hornbeam handles.Please read the description and view pictures carefully. Replacement parts are no longer made and sourcing them is difficult and expensive. Sometimes, I must purchase another tool just for a single part.
