STANLEY TYPE 17. #5 Jack plane. World War II era. READ FULL DESCRIPTION.: $77.00
You're buying the Stanley #5 Jack plane showing in the photos. This plane is in excellent condition, the japaning is mostly intact, and still retains much of its original sheen. The metal parts exhibit very little pitting and staining. The stained hardwood handles are completely intact and retained much of their original coloring, both handles were given a coat of clear shellac for protection and appearance. The entire plane has been inspected and carefully cleaned. The blade on this plane exhibits a very unusual double stamp logo (see photos). This plane exhibits most of the TYPE 17 war era manufacturing economies:The absence of any brass, hence the plastic and aluminum depth adjusting knob. The lack of a frog adjusting screw and plate. The stained hardwood handles instead of traditional Rosewood handles. And the absence of nickel plating throughout. It also appears that the blades were shortened possibly to conserve on steel. The cutting end of the blade appears to be of the same length as traditional blades, however the upper portion of the blade with the chip breaker screw slot appears to be about 1/2 of an inch shorter. The shorter blade length may just be common to the Victory line of blades.A well-preserved example of one of the least of the sacrifices made during that time period.
