Rare 1927 White House Relic Timber Wood Block Salvaged Roof Truss Longleaf Pine: $990.00
Own a tangible piece of the foundation of American democracy. This original 1927 White House relic wood block is crafted from the historic Virginia longleaf pine roof timbers installed in 1815 during President James Madison’s administration. These very beams helped support the roof of the Executive Mansion for 112 years, spanning the terms of 26 U.S. Presidents, until they were carefully removed during the major structural roof renovation under President Calvin Coolidge in the summer of 1927.Purchased at public sale by the National Lumber Manufacturers Association (NLMA), a select portion of this historic timber was converted into limited-edition commemorative souvenirs to be presented to prominent public figures, historical societies, and collectors. The front of the block proudly retains its original, fully intact cardstock provenance label.Following the burning of the White House by British troops in 1814 during the War of 1812, architect James Hoban rushed to reconstruct the executive residence. To rebuild quickly, old-growth virgin longleaf pine trusses were installed to support the roof. These resilient timbers quietly witnessed more than a century of American history—from the Civil War and the signing of monumental policies to the daily lives of 26 different presidents—before being replaced with steel framing in 1927 due to structural weight concerns. - Object Type: Architectural Salvage Relic / Historical Souvenir
