Pelikan 400NN M&K Black Striped EF Fountain Pen.
The 400NN is a traditional piston-filling fountain pen manufactured by Pelikan, a long-established German writing instrument manufacturer, from the 1950s to the 1960s. Combining a classic design with excellent writing performance, it remains highly regarded by fountain pen enthusiasts around the world.
The original 400NN was discontinued in 1965, but due to its continued popularity, particularly in the Japanese market, production resumed in 1973. This reissued version was manufactured by the German company Merz & Krell and is commonly known as the “400NN M&K.” Production is generally considered to have lasted from approximately 1973 to 1978. It is now discontinued and is regarded as a collectible vintage model.
The M&K version of the 400NN retains the traditional design of the original model while incorporating several distinctive structural modifications. One of its characteristic features is the smooth transition between the piston knob and barrel without a noticeable step. Other differences from the original model can be found in the cap threads, feed, nib unit, piston mechanism, and various internal components.
This particular pen features the Black Striped finish. The barrel has an elegant black striped pattern, complemented by a black cap and gold-colored clip and rings. Unlike the more familiar Green Striped version, the Black Striped model offers a refined and understated appearance. The Black Striped version is relatively uncommon and is also an attractive choice for collectors.
The pen is equipped with a 14K gold EF (Extra Fine) nib, suitable for writing small characters and making detailed notes. It also features an ebonite feed, a characteristic component of vintage fountain pens.
The pen measures approximately 129 mm in length when capped and weighs approximately 15.6 g. Its lightweight construction provides excellent portability and comfortable handling during writing.
The filling system is Pelikan’s traditional piston-filling mechanism. By rotating the piston knob at the end of the barrel, the internal piston moves up and down, allowing ink to be drawn directly through the nib into the barrel.
Although this is a pre-owned item and shows some signs of use, it is in very good overall condition.
Only the pen itself is included in this listing. The box shown in the photos is for photography purposes only and is not included.
