Mudhead Koyemsi Katchina By Hopi Carver Neil David Sr For Sale

Koyemsi Mudhead acts as an intermediary, clown, dancer, messenger, and educator who bridges the gap between the deities and the human world. Wearing a black cloth kilt. Neil David Sr. Was born in 1944 at Polacca on First Mesa. He is known for his humorous figures as noted by the Payday candy bar it is holding. His carvings were featured in a multi page article in the June issue of Arizona Highways Magazine. He was one of the Hopi organizers of the “Artists Hopid” that wanted to use their artistic talents to instill pride and identity in the Hopi. David was awarded the Arizona Indian Living Treasure AILTA Award in 2005. AILTA honors lifetime achievements of Arizona American Indians. The Katchina is signed and dated. We purchased it in 1993 the year it was carved. It is part of our personal collection (see photos). The Katchina is 6.5” high, 3” wide, and 2.25” deep.
