A charming Japanese blue and white porcelain donburi (covered rice bowl) with its original lid. The bowl and lid are decorated in rich underglaze cobalt blue with the traditional karako motif: joyful children playing among pine trees, blooming peonies, and fluttering butterflies. A ruyi cloud-collar border frames the rim, and double blue bands circle the foot and the lid\'s top ring.
The lid has its own foot ring, so it can be flipped over and used as a small plate or dish, a clever feature of traditional Japanese tableware. It\'s perfect for rice, noodles, or soup. It\'s equally lovely displayed on a shelf with other Asian porcelain or blue and white pieces.

ConditionGood vintage condition. No chips or cracks. The unglazed foot rims show natural kiln grit from firing, and there\'s a small spot of residue on the underside of the bowl base, consistent with age. Lid included.
