Connolly Jr. HS Yearbook 1990. This annual belonged to my mother who was a Home Economics teacher at Connolly for many years. It is signed by dozens of students on many of the pages.
The inside covers (front and back)) and the fly leaves (also front and back) are almost completely covered with well wishes (see pictures). Also several inside pages have student signatures on them (see pictures).
The yearbook starts with a look back at 1969 when Connolly moved from Ritter School on the ASU campus to its present location. Then there are two pages of students arriving at school. The "then and now" theme continues with a two page layout of the five teachers who had been at the school since its inception. My mother, Mrs. Flanagan, is one of these teachers. The next page is the faculty and staff pictures, followed by a two page spread dedicated to the retiring librarian, Mrs. Wagner.
The next few pages are candids and more student pictures of groups and individuals followed by the eighth graders' (class of 1990) individual pictures in alphabetical order by last name. After the eighth graders are the seventh graders' pictures, also in alphabetical order. Then the sixth grade pictures are featured, also in alphabetical order. The class pictures are followed by a two page spread of baby pictures of various students.
The next section is Activities such as dances and interest groups: choirs, different bands and ensembles and orchestra, followed by Student Council and National Junior High School Honor Society. Following this is Spirit Line, the basketball team, softball teams, volleyball teams, football team, wrestling team, and spring basketball teams (boys and girls).
The next two pages are about the middle school in general and the changes it is experiencing. They are followed by two pages of the sixth grade Base Groups, another page of candid shots and then a page of the Photojournalism and Journalism classes. The next two pages are an aerial view of the subdivision where the school is located. The final two pages with pictures are students at dismissal time.
The back fly page and inside back cover are covered with autographs and well wishes.
The exterior of the annual is clean and crisp. There is a very small bit of smudging on the lower front cover, but it is barely noticeable. This is a very useful resource if one wants to learn about the history of Connolly Middle School (Connolly Junior High School) in Tempe, Arizona.
