ITEM DESCRIPTION

This Ceramic Arts Studio Betty Harrington Design Peter Pan & Wendy Figurine Pair is in Excellent Vintage Condition with No Chips No Cracks No Crazing. Designed by Betty Harrington for Ceramic Arts Studio of Madison, Wisconsin, these charming companion figurines date from 1947–1956 and measure approximately 5 1/4" tall.

The pair depicts Peter Pan and Wendy seated individually against tall, dramatically modeled green foliage. The coordinating bases and leafy backgrounds allow the two figures to be displayed together as a wonderful companion set.

Wendy is beautifully modeled in a flowing cream-colored dress accented with soft coral pink at the cuffs and neckline. She sits in a graceful pose with one hand raised to her head, with delicately painted facial features, dark hair, and black strappy shoes.

Peter Pan is seated in a jaunty pose wearing a cream-colored outfit accented in blue and coral pink, along with a coordinating cap. His crossed-leg pose, expressive face, and hand-painted costume details give him wonderful character.

Both figures are surrounded by tall sculptural green leaves rising dramatically behind them. The rich green glaze of the foliage and bases provides an attractive contrast with the lighter costumes and colorful hand-painted accents.

This Ceramic Arts Studio pair comes from an exceptional lifetime collection of well over 1,000 pieces, including figurines, salt & pepper shakers, head vases, and other Ceramic Arts Studio designs. Carefully assembled over many years, the collection represents an extraordinary gathering of Ceramic Arts Studio pieces. We were very fortunate to acquire more than 500 pieces from this collection and make them available to our buyers.

DESIGNER HISTORY

Betty Harrington was the principal designer associated with Ceramic Arts Studio of Madison, Wisconsin. Her imaginative figurines and novelty designs, characterized by expressive personalities, whimsical subjects, elaborate costumes, and distinctive hand decoration, helped establish Ceramic Arts Studio as one of the most recognizable American ceramic manufacturers of the mid-20th century.

PATTERN & DESIGN

Peter Pan & Wendy are designed as coordinating companion figurines, with each character seated individually among tall, sculptural foliage.

The dramatic green leaves rising behind the figures create height and depth while visually connecting the two pieces when displayed side by side. Peter's blue and coral accents coordinate beautifully with Wendy's softer coral and cream coloration.

The expressive poses, finely painted faces, colorful costumes, and elaborate foliage are characteristic of Betty Harrington's imaginative figural work for Ceramic Arts Studio and make Peter Pan & Wendy a particularly charming companion pair.
