This sale is for a beautiful and large ACID ETCHED and REVERSED PAINTED Bellova hanging pendant shade. Bellova lamps were made by H. G. McFaddin & Co., the maker of Emeralite banker’s lamps. McFaddin imported the glass for their lamps from J. Schreiber & Neffen, a prominent glass manufacturing company in Czechoslovakia.
The shade was made between 1923 and approximately 1930. The shade is properly signed BELLOVA / CZECHOSLOVAKIA on the inside of the shade, as shown in a couple of the photos.
The shade is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. It is 13” wide. The top opening is 6” and the bottom opening is 10”. The entire fixture hangs between approximately 30\" - 33\" inches, depending on how deep you recess the pipe below the canopy, as it\'s adjustable.
The shade depicts beautifully reverse painted flowers and leaves all around. The outside of the glass has a gorgeous acid etching pattern of flowers. Note that some of the pictures are a little \"fish eyed\" and make the shade look like it bows out or in on the sides. That\'s not correct......the side of the shade are all straight up and down (i.e., flat, not curved), as well as the top and bottom of the shade.
The shade comes with an antique fixture that\'s in nice condition. It\'s patina is silver, with colored accents, typical of the Bellova style on some of its bases. The finish does show age, but that only adds character. I guess it could be polished up, but I personally would leave it just the way it is. The fixture has already been wired, so it’s ready to use immediately.
While there are a number of Bellova hanging shades on the market, it\'s rare to find them with acid etching and reverse painting. This is really a gorgeous shade, with great colors and sure to be noticed by anyone visiting your home! Use the shade as is, or display it on your own fixture.I have a number of Bellova shades hanging where high-hats were located.....it took an electrician a very short time to remove the high-hat fixture and add a flat pan fixture......so you don\'t have to use it as a pendant if you choose not to.
