This sale is for a beautiful and large Bellova hanging pendant shade. Bellova lamps were made by H. G. McFaddin & Co., the maker of Emeralite banker’s lamps, between 1923 and about 1930.McFaddin imported the glass for their lamps from J. Schreiber & Neffen, a prominent glass manufacturing company in Czechoslovakia.
The BELLOVA / CZECHOSLOVAKIA signature is on the inside wall of the shade and is quite readable, as seen in the last photo.
The shade is in excellent condition with no damage. The shade is 13” wide. The top opening is 6” and the bottom opening is 10”. The top half of the outside walls and the entire top part of the shade are nicely acid etched in a sort of spider web pattern. Then the bottom half of the outside wall is beautifully hand painted with flowers and leaves all around. Of particular note is that the top of the shade is arched, whereas most of these shades had a flat top. This curved top, and the acid etching, make this particular shade an exceptional shade.
The shade comes with a fancy antique brass shade canopy, although there is no ceiling canopy. The fixture has a small amount of chain on it, so you may want to add a longer chain and rewire it accordingly. Replacement chain and electrical wire are readily available at any big box hardware store. Alternatively, you can always flush mount it to the ceiling after getting an inexpensive ceiling pan fixture.
This is a beautiful shade and sure to be noticed by anyone visiting your home!
