Item Description:
Offered here is a genuine antique Waterbury Clock Company \"Amherst\" gingerbread mantel clock, made in the USA, most likely dating from the 1880s–1900— the golden era of American Victorian \"gingerbread\" clocks.
The dial is signed \"Manufactured by Waterbury Clock Co., U.S.A.\" and the movement is an 8-Day, Spring-driven, Time and Strike mechanism (strikes the hours on a bell/gong). A remnant of the original paper label on the back confirms this: \"American Manufacture, Eight-Day, Spring, Strike, Amherst.\"
Case & Features:
- Ornately carved walnut case with scrolled crest and side finials, in the classic Victorian \"gingerbread\" style Waterbury was well known for
- Glass door with gilt-stencilled decoration below the dial
- Roman numeral paper dial with brass bezel
- Nickel/silver-plated ornamental pendulum bob with a rare original rating/regulation disc (rotating pointer to fine-tune timekeeping) — a nice extra feature not always found intact
- Comes complete with its original brass winding key, pendulum, and regulator disc — all pictured
Dimensions: Approx. 48cm high x 38cm wide x 11cm deep
Condition:
This clock appears to have simply been over-wound and stopped — a straightforward job for a competent clock repairer to get running again. The case and glass tablet are in nice original condition for their age, with some expected wear (dial shows light foxing/spotting typical of a clock this old, finish has some age-related patina). Selling as-is, un-restored — a great project piece or as a display item. All parts shown are included with the clock.
Please study the photos carefully as they form part of the description. Any questions, feel free to ask before offerding/buying.
