This item is one sexy antique ovoid salt-glazed stoneware Jug – Approximately one-gallon plus size in excellent condition.Beautifully curved ovoid shape - a great show piece. Mottled tan, grey, and ginger-brown glaze.
Originally purchased as an 18thCentury New England stoneware jug.
The jug measures 12 5/8 inches tall, 7 3/8 inches in diameter at the shoulder (greatest diameter), and 4 3/4 inches in diameter just above the base.The jug is 1 5/8 inches in diameter across the rim.The handle is 1 inch wide and fastens to the shoulder of the jug.
The jug carries no size or maker’s mark or capacity mark.
It is in rare sound condition with no cracks and one small chip on the underside of the rim opposite the handle.It has a defect on the base made when the potter made the jug and other irregularities in the fabric of the jug from when the jug was made.
