Antique Catholic Sick Call / Last Rites kit by Homan Silver Plate Co., Cincinnati, Ohio.This is an old boxed set that was used for home visits to the sick, including Communion and Last Rites. The set appears to date to the late 1890s or early 1900s. One of the pieces is marked Homan Silver Plate Co., Quadruple Plate, Sick Call Outfit, Pat’d April ’97.The wooden box has a brass cross and corner decorations on the lid and a purple fabric-lined interior. The set includes the large crucifix with two candle holders, two IHS plates, glass Holy Water bottle with stopper, small glass bottle, gilt-lined cup, spoon, holy water sprinkler/brush, linens, and other pieces shown in the photos. The original wooden case is very well made, with traditional finger-jointed/box-jointed corner construction, brass hardware, and a fitted purple-lined interior. The craftsmanship of the box is part of what makes the set especially appealing.This is silver plate, not sterling silver.The set is in antique, used condition with age-related wear. There is tarnish, plating wear, scratches, discoloration, wear to the interior fabric, and general signs of use and storage. Some of the silver plating is worn through in spots, especially on the small cup. The wooden box also shows normal wear from age. I have not restored anything. I believe the set is largely complete, but I am not an expert on every original component, so please review all photos carefully and use them as part of the description. A nice old religious collectible with a lot of character, and much more interesting as a complete group than as individual pieces.Approximate age: late 1890s–early 1900s
