Each plate features an ornate engraved IHS Christogram in the center, surrounded by a finely engraved wreath of oak/leaves and berries with a Christian cross at the top. The edges have a fine beaded treatment.

The patent marking dates the design to 1897. Museum documentation identifies matching Homan pieces as part of Catholic sick-call/viaticum sets, portable devotional sets kept in the home for a priest administering Communion and the sacraments to someone seriously ill. Documented Homan sets included these IHS patens along with a crucifix/candelabrum, holy-water vessel and other liturgical accessories.
Each measures approximately 5½ inches in diameter.
Condition: Both show substantial age and use, including tarnish, oxidation, scratches, dark spotting, surface wear and areas of silver-plate loss. One retains a somewhat brighter finish while the other has heavier wear and discoloration. They have intentionally not been polished, leaving the existing antique patina intact. Please review photos closely for condition.
