Antique spun-brass bucket or pail attributed by its underside marking to H.W. Hayden and the Ansonia Brass Company of Ansonia, Connecticut.
The worn mark includes “H.W. Hayden,” “Patented Dec. 16, 1851” and “Manufactured by Ansonia…” The 1851 date is the patent date and is not presented as the exact date this individual bucket was manufactured.
The substantial brass body has a rolled rim, riveted handle mounts and an iron bail handle. A magnet does not adhere to the bucket body but does adhere to the handle. Its naturally aged, unpolished surface gives it excellent primitive and early American character.
Suitable for display as a hearth accessory, planter, kindling holder or decorative antique vessel.

Antique condition with extensive patina, scratches, staining, oxidation and dents from age and use. Heavier oxidation is present inside. No splits or holes observed. It has not been polished or tested for water tightness.
