Antique French S. Marti Onyx Mantel Clock Gilt Columns & Figures – For Repair/servicing (see below)
A little French palace for your mantel.
Four fluted columns, classical female figures, and richly banded stone give this antique French mantel clock the presence of a miniature temple. Pale green, cream, and honey-colored onyx contrasts with burgundy-red inset panels and ornate gold-tone fittings.
Believed to date to the late 19th century, the brass movement bears the S. Marti & Cie “Médaille de Bronze” stamp and number 6981, with a separate 46 stamp. The included pendulum bob is also stamped 6981, a particularly appealing matching detail. An additional hand-engraved marking appears on the backplate; its meaning is unknown.

Mechanical condition — offered for repair or restoration
The gong strike has been heard working. Timekeeping and sustained running have not been verified.
When attempting to wind the time side, the key turns and clicks, builds a little tension, and then stops building further tension. The cause has not been diagnosed, and I didn\'t want to risk trying to turn it further. Servicing or repair should be expected.
Cosmetic condition
The clock is in great condition, given the age of this 130+ yr old clock. Small edge chips are present in the stone. The upper corner of the central pediment appears to have an old repair.
The stone also has natural veining and color variation. So please examine the detailed photographs for the locations and extent of wear, cracks, chips, and apparent repairs.
Includes: Clock, matching-number pendulum, and winding key pictured. Please review all photographs as part of the description.
