Antique “OUR DARLING” casket/coffin plaque, an unusual surviving piece of early American funerary hardware. Approx. 5.25" × 2.75"
The plaque features raised OUR DARLING lettering surrounded by an elaborate scrolling foliate border. This type of sentimental inscription was used on period funeral hardware, particularly pieces associated with infant and children's caskets.

Elgin, Illinois was an important center for American casket-hardware manufacturing during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Elgin Silver Plate Company manufactured coffin and casket hardware there, while Western Casket Hardware Company was established in Elgin in 1903; the businesses later became associated through the consolidation that formed Elgin Metal Casket Company in 1926.
