This piece was awarded to those in attendance at the Veiled Prophet Debutant ball that was held October 4th, 1898 in St. Louis, MO.
Desk accessories were a common theme for the gifts and awards given out Veiled Prophet VP exclusive events.
It is very difficult to find the exact details and materials used to make this piece. According to research it was most common for pieces like these to made in the U.S.A. out of pewter and then silver plated.
There is an O stamped in the bottom that was most likely from the manufacturer.
Pre-owned. The metal has no identifying markings to know the materials. After much research it was most common for pewter to be silver plated for pieces like these at this time period. The plating has flaked and shows patina throughout. The ink well glass is in great condition and the lid opens and closes freely. The dragon\'s wings are both fixed to the piece. NO past repairs or restoration has been completed on this lot.
A gold colored inkwell, like this one, sold a couple of years ago, at sale, for $450. That one had a missing wing and NO pen included!
