This is a large, completely original Spider-Man painting by artist Andy Lee, created directly on heavy, rigid art board and measuring approximately 18 x 24 inches.

This is NOT a print.

It is not a reproduction.

It is not a convention print with a signature added afterward.

It is not card stock.

And it isn't a thin piece of paper that's going to arrive rolled up in a tube.

This is the actual original artwork.

Andy painted Spider-Man directly onto a substantial, thick, non-bendable art board using paint, ink and mixed-media techniques, resulting in a genuinely one-of-a-kind piece.

The artwork is also signed by Andy Lee, including his distinctive red artist's seal.

PERSONAL PROVENANCE – COMMISSIONED DIRECTLY FROM ANDY LEE

I've owned this piece for approximately 20 years.

More importantly, I didn't buy it later from a dealer or at sale.

Andy Lee created it for me.

It has remained in my personal collection ever since.

So there isn't much mystery about where this one came from. I'm the original owner and recipient of the artwork.

After roughly two decades in my collection, I'm finally thinning out some of my original comic art to make room for new pieces.

This one is difficult to let go because it is such a fantastic wall piece, but apparently walls are a finite resource.

ABOUT ANDY LEE

If you're familiar with Andy Lee's work, you'll recognize the aesthetic immediately.

Andy has developed an extraordinarily distinctive approach to comic and pop-culture imagery, incorporating the visual language of Asian brush painting, calligraphy and expressive ink work into Western comic-book characters.

And that's exactly what makes this Spider-Man so interesting.

This isn't an artist trying to imitate Steve Ditko.

It isn't faux-John Romita.

It isn't McFarlane-lite.

It looks like an Andy Lee.

And that's exactly what original art should be.

Rather than the precise, polished rendering typically associated with modern superhero illustration, Andy's work is loose, gestural, spontaneous and incredibly energetic.

Look closely at the piece.

The heavy black contour lines aren't mechanically perfect.

The red webbing moves in and out of Spider-Man's costume.

The blue areas are almost painterly blocks of color.

The background is suggested with broad brown and black strokes rather than meticulously rendered architecture.

There are drips.

There are splatters.

There are places where you can actually see the physicality of the artist making the image.

That's the point.

The result feels somewhere between American comic-book illustration and traditional Asian brush painting.

It's Spider-Man reduced to movement, shape and energy.

AND IT IS A HELL OF A SPIDER-MAN IMAGE

The composition is fantastic.

Spider-Man is caught in an extreme crouching/swinging pose, his body twisting through the image while the web line actually extends beyond the traditional visual boundaries of the figure.

And at 18 x 24 inches, it has real presence.

This isn't something you need to stand six inches away from to appreciate.

Put it on a wall and you know exactly what you're looking at from across the room.

Spider-Man.

But it doesn't look like every other Spider-Man image you've seen ten thousand times.

That's what attracted me to it in the first place.

SPIDER-MAN IS HAVING ANOTHER HUGE MOMENT

There probably isn't a bad time to own Spider-Man artwork.

He's Spider-Man.

But 2026 is a particularly interesting moment for the character.

Tom Holland has returned as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, with Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon and others joining the cast. Sony describes the movie as Peter Parker returning to life as a full-time Spider-Man in a world that no longer remembers him.

More importantly, the movie has become an enormous theatrical event.

As I write this listing, Brand New Day has reportedly grossed approximately $2.4 BILLION worldwide, another remarkable demonstration of just how enormous the global audience for Spider-Man remains.

So Spider-Man isn't exactly suffering from a shortage of attention right now.

What I like about owning original artwork, though, is that it exists completely outside the merchandising cycle.

There will be Brand New Day posters.

There will be toys.

There will be Funko Pops.

There will be approximately nine billion pieces of Spider-Man merchandise manufactured during our lifetimes.

There is only one of this.

ORIGINAL ART VS. MANUFACTURED COLLECTIBLES

That's ultimately why I've gravitated increasingly toward original artwork.

A trading card can be rare.

A comic can be rare.

A statue can be limited to 500 pieces.

A print might be numbered to 100.

But an original painting has a print run of:

ONE.

Andy Lee stood in front of this board roughly two decades ago and physically made this Spider-Man.

The brush strokes you're looking at are the brush strokes he made.

The ink is the ink he put down.

The paint is the paint he applied.

There isn't another copy sitting in somebody else's collection.

For collectors who increasingly want objects that feel genuinely unique rather than another manufactured "limited edition," that distinction matters.

SIZE AND MATERIAL

The artwork is executed directly on heavy, thick, rigid art board.

I want to emphasize this because photographs can make it difficult to understand the physical nature of the piece.

This is NOT flexible card stock or poster board.

The support is substantial and rigid.

It does not bend like a conventional sheet of comic art.

That gives the painting considerably more physical presence than a typical 11 x 17 comic-art page and makes it particularly suitable for framing and display.

The artwork is currently unframed, giving the new owner the ability to choose framing that works with their collection.

Personally, I think this would look spectacular floated inside a simple black frame so the entire board, including the edges and Andy's marks, remains visible.

I would absolutely not mat over the artwork.

The raw board is part of the object.

SIGNED ORIGINAL

Andy has signed the artwork prominently along the right side of the composition, accompanied by his distinctive red seal.

The signature isn't hidden in a corner.

It's visually integrated into the artwork and reinforces the Asian calligraphic influence that makes Andy's work so recognizable.

Please examine the photographs closely, as they are part of the description and show the actual artwork you will receive.

CONDITION

This artwork is approximately 20 years old and has been part of my personal collection since it was created.

Because this is a hand-painted mixed-media original, variations in paint coverage, brush strokes, ink, splatter, drips and surface texture are part of the artwork, not printing defects.

There may also be minor handling or age-related characteristics consistent with an original piece of art of this age.

Again, this isn't a factory-manufactured poster.

It's a physical object that an artist actually worked on.

WHY I'M SELLING IT

I've accumulated a fairly absurd amount of original comic art, comics, baseball memorabilia and pop-culture material over the years.

I've reached the point where I want to curate rather than simply accumulate.

That means letting some genuinely good things go so I can make room, physically and financially, for the next pieces I want to add.

This Andy Lee Spider-Man has been with me for roughly two decades, which should tell you something about how much I've enjoyed it.

But it's time for somebody else to put it on a wall.

Preferably someone with more wall than I currently possess.
