Cretaceous Spinosaurus Tooth
Featured in this listing is aSpinosaurustooth from the Kem Kem Cretaceous fossil beds of Morocco.The Spinosaurus (latin for 'spined lizard') was a huge theropod dinosaur that lived during the mid to late cretaceous, mostly in North Africa, such as the legendary Aegypticus. The Spinosaur was largely pescivorous (fish eating) preying on fish species in large river basins like Onchopristisand this niche allowed it to co-exist for the most part with the comparatively size carcharadontosaurus that lived in the same region but hunted largely on land.Despite this there is fossil evidence of clashes between these two enormous predators when scarcity of prey in the rivers forced the spinosaur inland to compete with carcharadontosaurus.The teeth are cone shaped, as is typical for many semi-aquatic predators and are designed for grabbing and holding on to slippery prey rather than slicing and cutting like carcharadontosaurus.These teeth are fairly abundant as therepod teeth go, and thus very nice specimens are well within reach of an average collector.
