Here’s a Titusville you don’t run across very often, and the bone is what caught my attention first. This is a 2008 Titusville Cutlery Series 2 Premium Trapper, wearing factory-designated Antique Green jigged bone with beautiful depth and color. The deepest jigging runs nearly black to dark chocolate, surrounded by warm amber, honey and cream along the higher areas. Both sides are excellent, and those long, irregular worm-groove style cuts running through the conventional jigging give the handles an especially handsome old-fashioned look.
At 4 1/8” closed, this is built on Queen’s classic #19 Premium Trapper frame and comes from the initial 2008 production of the Titusville Series 2 Premium Trapper. The secondary blade documents the knife particularly well: TC0819WGB / 2008 / 1 of 100 / Series 2. Even better, the original box is present and its factory label identifies TC0819WGB as “ANT. GREEN,” giving us the factory handle designation rather than having to guess from color alone.
There’s an interesting bit of Pennsylvania cutlery history behind these knives. Titusville Cutlery used Queen manufacture for this Series 2 Premium Trapper, and this example carries the markings to show it—the traditional Titusville Cutlery Co. / Titusville, PA tang stamps along with a clearly stamped QUEEN tang. The master blade also retains the attractive “Titusville Trapper” ribbon etch.
Once you get past the bone, the quality of the knife itself is equally impressive. This one is extremely well put together. Both blades have good positive snap and excellent mechanics, with no wobble or blade play. Fit throughout is tight and clean, and the springs, liners and blades come together nicely. It has that solid, precise feel in hand that makes Queen’s better traditional knives so enjoyable.
The blades remain full, bright and highly polished, with the original decorative etches still visible and easy to see. The grooved nickel-silver bolsters, brass liners and distinctive T.C.C. shield work beautifully with the Antique Green bone. I see no cracks or chips in either handle.
The original Titusville Cutlery box and packing are included. On a 1-of-100 knife, having the matching factory box, model code, Series 2 markings, blade etches and Queen identification all together makes this a particularly complete collector example.
It’s a very attractive piece from an interesting chapter of modern Titusville and Queen cutlery history.
