1950s MONTBLANC 244G 272 BILSTEIN Celluloid Fountain Pen& Pencil-14k OB-144 146 For Sale

Vintage MONT BLANC 244G fountain pen with a 14k OB- Oblique Broad point nib and a 272 pencil. The nib is very flexy and smooth, as can be seen on the writing sample provided.

A very interesting pen entirely made from celluloid, the 24X were different than all the other Montblanc pens made in the period. Not only the design, but the way it was made was much different, featuring a metal guide for the piston that is fused to the celluloid barrel and a blind cap the unscrews to reveal the piston filling knob. In most cases, they are a pure pleasure to write with and have a good feel in the had. The 244 was the mid sized pen, there was the smaller 242 and the bigger 246.

This is an earlier version, marked as 244 G, the later ones were simply 244. Besides the marking, the nib is a bit different, although they are pretty similar.

The pens are in near mint to mint condition, as you can see in the pictures. The 244g is a piston filler pen. The pen itself has been fully serviced, which included disassembly, thorough cleaning and all moving parts lubrication, thus the pistons operates smoothly. You can see the pen fully disassembled in one of the pictures. There are no cracks or engravings on the pen. Also, the golden cap rings are firm in place. I have manufactured and installed a new cork gasket in this pen.

These pens were commissioned by Bilstein as a gift to a valued employee, or customer. Bilstein is still one of the leading car shock absorber manufacturers, the company is based in Germany. What makes this set a bit more special is that there is a gold stamp with the company name on the inside of the leather pouch the pens came in. Also, both the pens are engraved/ stamped with bilstein co. The pouch looks like an original Montblanc one from the period, although there are no markings. The zipper might also not be working.

I have provided a writing sample using Pelikan 4001 black tint, in order to further describe the writing characteristics of the nib. Please keep in mind that I am a left handed writer.

The 272 pencil uses 1.18 mm leads and a push button mechanism which works great. It will come with a few leads included.
