1932 Dorothy Forbes Equestrian Horse Harlequin Dane Dog Glass Negative OOAK
Original, one-of-a-kind (OOAK) camera-original antique gelatin silver glass plate negative captured in May 1932: a classic New England country estate sporting portrait: prominent Boston equestrian and society figure Miss Dorothy Forbes attired in tailored riding habit, standing on a pastoral meadow flanked by her saddled thoroughbred hunter horse and an alert harlequin Great Dane.
Accompanied by its original vintage tan kraft darkroom morgue filing sleeve bearing contemporary newsroom documentation:
Historical & Sporting Context:
Dorothy Forbes was an influential figure in Massachusetts equestrian and foxhunting circles, deeply involved with the Norfolk Hunt and premier regional horse trials. Renowned for her horsemanship, kennel management, and country estate breeding, Forbes represented old-line Boston society\'s deep sporting traditions during the interwar era.
Captured outdoors with crisp natural-light field definition:
The Full Trio Composition: Forbes stands centered on a manicured country pasture in formal English riding habit: a tailored single-breasted hacking coat, high-waisted riding jodhpurs/breeches, polished tall leather equestrian field boots, and a hard-crowned bowler riding hat.
The Hunter & The Hound: To her side stands a tall, lean thoroughbred hunter fitted with an English hunt saddle, stirrup irons, and bridle bit with reins in hand. On her opposite side stands a clipped-ear harlequin Great Dane standing at attention on a leather lead.
Pastoral Estate Backdrop: Background reveals stone-wall-lined meadow grass, springtime hardwood trees, utility poles, and the roofline of an estate carriage barn in the distance.
Tonal Fidelity: Continuous-tone silver gelatin gradation rendering dappled coat markings on the Great Dane, glossy horsehide, woolen tweed tailoring, and soft overcast sky.
