Description
Original 1919 (Taisho 8) Imperial Japanese Army invitation card celebrating the Versailles Peace Treaty signing, jointly issued by Army Minister Yoshikazu Tanaka (later Prime Minister of Japan) and Chief of the General Staff General Uehara Yusaku.
Held at Koishikawa Korakuen Garden, Tokyo, this event marked Japan’s victory and participation in the post–World War I peace agreement.
The card bears the embossed cherry blossom crest of the Ministry of the Army, printed on fine ceremonial paper, and addressed to Army Engineer Colonel Kunio Miyahara — a known senior officer.
🏛 Historical Significance
This invitation represents Japan’s official military celebration of the Versailles Treaty (June 1919) — a defining moment that elevated Japan among the world powers.
The combined signatures of Uehara and Tanaka make it an exceptionally important piece for collectors of Imperial Japanese Army history, Taisho diplomacy, and early 20th-century militaria ephemera.
