View Larger Image   Goodell Pratt Hand Drill Two Speed Patented 1895   Description: This is a nice clean quality made egg beater type two speed hand drill marked "GOODELL-PRATT GREENFIELD MASS. U.S.A. PAT. AUG. 13 1895", on the chuck, and "GOODELL-PRATT COMPANY GREENFIELD MASS. U.S.A. PAT. MAR.31.1896"on the crank handle. This drill is 14.5" long overall, the crank wheel is 4.5" diameter, and has a 5/16" diameter chuck capacity. The crank handle, side handle and solid end handle are hardwood, and still in nice condition, snug fitting, nice finish with minimal wear, a few scratches, tiny dings, the side handle is also solid and clean, very nice shape. Overall the paint is about 50% intact overall, red on the crank wheel, black paint on the frame, no rust or pitting. The gears, speed selector, and all the spindles are in great shape. This is a two speed model, and it can be changed by pulling and rotating the little knurled cap on the side of the drill. It generally requires the crank wheel to be moving very slowly while shifting gears to engage properly, but works just fine. The end handle is solid on this one, and a little larger than the type with the threaded cap on them, very solid and well attached, some scratch, but nice and solide overall. The chuck on this style drill is 3 jaw type, spring loaded jaws, and all the springs are in good working order.
