View Larger Image   Disston D-100 Nickel Alloy Steel Hand Saw 26 inch Blade   Description: This is a very nice, clean 1950's, 26" blade hand-saw marked "DISSTON D-100", etched on the blade, and the handle medallion reads "DISSTON U.S.A.", and also has the Henry Disston signature. This is a 10 teeth points per inch cross cut saw with a good clean, 99% straight blade (or in very straight condition overall), and it's very sharp, ready to cut condition. The handle on this saw is unique! At this point in the 1950's disston had the blade and materials technology accomplished, and perhaps the best in the world. It appears that in the mid-1950's Disston decided to design some new designed handles, and even refine the material types used in the blade and handle. This saw is a great example of this as it has a alloy handle the fits into precision stamped hidden dowel locators and is held together by 4 screws. The wood grip section is solid hardwood, and is fitted onto two metal ear sections of the handle. Very nice design, very solid, and in this case very nice looking as the handle is in very good condition with very minor scratches, wear, and staining. Another point to make about this saw is that it has the Nickel Alloy Steel, this simply means that it is a bit less likely to rust, and is brighter and shinier than other blades due to the nickel mixed into the alloy. The fact is it will rust, because the nickel amount is not enough to overcome this natural process. The blade has some staining and some tiny spots of what appears to be pitting, but on less the 2% of the total blade surfaces. A very nice looking, useable hand saw!
