these Hina dolls date back from the showa era I believe it’s from the 1920s. Originally there was seven steps for these dolls, the 1st step has the emperor and empress(obina as emperor and mebina as empress)with flowers in between them, the 2nd has the 3 court ladies(san nin kangyo), the 3rd tier has the 5 musicians (goninbayashi), the 4th tier has the 2 ministers( daijin ) with multiple furniture in the middle of the display, the 5th tier contains the 3 protecters of the court ( shichō ), and the rest contains more offerings and miniature furniture. most of the furnitures and the accessories of these dolls are lost in time surprisingly the dolls are in good condition, however the three protecters have some type of stains on their clothes (i just cleaned the dolls skin). These dolls are from the Nissei people of seattle and they are given as a gift to a young girl from the mother’s side of the family. The standing dolls measure up to 15 cm and the seated dolls measure up to 12 cm.as you could see a lot of the dolls are missing their accessories, The left lady in hand lost her tea pot, the royal guards are missing the bow that they are holding, the five musicians only one drum remains, The bases of the empire’s and empress are missing, (i’m using spare bases from my other dolls for the first few pictures) The lamps are also missing, the emperors fan is missing, the miniature furniture is missing, The orange tree and the plum blossom tree are missing, and a ton of the empresses beads are missing. Each protecters has three emotions one is mad one is sad and the last one is happy these teach young girls about emotion. These dolls were made in the kanto style and the company that manufactured these dolls are called miyabi ningyo and Toshosai Meigetsu. these companies were very famous during the 1920s. Put these dolls away from sunlight and away from any humidity due to the doll being made with gofun and fabric which could absorb and permanently destroy the dolls. If you want some accessories for these dolls i suggest you to go to juho tougei and press hina doll accessories or go to chidori vintage shop and buy the accessories. UPDATE: The emperors hat is broken and the eyebrows of the obina and mebina are re painted
