c1930-50 RPPC Gevaert Photo Hindu Temple Deity Statue India Postcard
Step into a moment of devotion captured decades ago…
This striking RPPC features an elaborately adorned Hindu temple deity, richly decorated and seated in a position of quiet authority. The figure is draped in ceremonial garlands and intricate jewelry, holding a long spear-like implement—an important symbol in Hindu religious iconography. The craftsmanship alone draws the eye, but it’s the presence of the figure that truly holds it.
Photographed on Gevaert paper, this real photo postcard captures more than just a statue—it preserves a living tradition of worship, where idols are dressed, honored, and presented with great care and reverence.
While the exact temple or city remains unknown, the style, symbolism, and presentation strongly point to India, a region known for its deeply rooted devotional practices and temple artistry.
A compelling piece for collectors of religious imagery, ethnographic photography, or anyone drawn to the visual power of sacred art. As always, please examine the image closely and draw your own conclusions.
“Printed on Gevaert photographic paper, a Belgian-made stock widely used by photographers around the world in the early to mid-20th century.”
