Pair of original 1920s Valentine’s “Bonzo” Series postcards illustrated by George Ernest Studdy, featuring the British cartoon dog Bonzo.
The lot includes “I Hate Being Parted From You” — Valentine’s Bonzo Series no. 1053, depicting Bonzo sitting beside a door next to a pair of red shoes, and “I Dream of You!” — Valentine’s Series no. 1076, depicting Bonzo asleep in bed beneath a moonlit window.
Both postcards were printed in Great Britain and bear the printed G. E. Studdy artist signature within the image. The reverse sides identify them as Valentine’s / Valentine’s Bonzo Series postcards and include printed series numbers and stamp-box codes indicating a mid-1920s production date.
George Ernest Studdy’s Bonzo character appeared extensively on postcards, books, toys, advertisements, and other merchandise during the 1920s. These postcards feature romantic and sweetheart-themed subjects from the Valentine’s series.
Condition:
Light age toning, minor corner and edge wear, light surface marks, and some manuscript writing or marks. Unposted. Please review photographs for complete condition details.
