E. F. Drew & Co., Inc. ran primarily as a maker of oleomargarine and edible fats out of a Boonton, New Jersey plant, with a Manhattan office at 50 Broad Street — a business substantial enough that federal regulators seized a shipment of its oleomargarine for mislabeling in 1951. Alongside that food business, the company kept a Yarn Department, selling the oils and lubricants textile mills needed to run cotton and wool through spinning and weaving equipment.
This card is a blank market-survey form, meant for yarn-mill customers to report their usage: how much they bought weekly, what quality and packaging they preferred, and whether they wanted black-and-white mixture fancy yarn. Nobody ever filled this particular copy in, leaving every field blank down to the date.
Fat-processing and textile-oil supply were closely related trades in this period, both drawing on the same rendering and refining know-how, which is likely how a company known for oleomargarine ended up running its own yarn-oil sales operation on the side.
