c1910 Philadelphia Shoe Co San Francisco Workers Large Antique Photo:
$175.00

Original large-format antique photograph showing the interior of the Philadelphia Shoe Company’s warehouse or packing department in San Francisco, California, circa 1907–1915.

Eight male employees pose among stacks of shoe boxes, wooden shipping crates, worktables, packing-paper rolls, tools, and an early industrial scale. Several men wear work aprons and period hats. The exceptionally detailed image offers a rare view of early 20th-century commercial labor, warehouse operations, packaging, and the San Francisco shoe trade.

A wooden shipping crate in the foreground is marked “Geo. H. Young.” George H. Young Inc. was listed in period San Francisco directories as a wholesale shoe business at 207–209 Second Street, further connecting the photograph to the city’s historic footwear industry.

A handwritten inscription on the reverse identifies the location as:

“Philadelphia Shoe Co. – Shoe Co. – S.F. CA.”

Philadelphia Shoe Company operated in San Francisco during the early 20th century, including locations at 1549 Fillmore Street and later 825 Market Street. The exact building and identities of the workers shown in this photograph are unknown.

The photograph is mounted on its original decorative presentation board. A faint embossed photographer’s mark appears near the upper-right corner of the mount but is not fully legible.

Approximate overall mount size: 12 × 10 inches.

Approximate photograph size: 10.5 × 8.5 inches.

Condition: Original antique condition with age-related fading, toning, scattered marks, stains, surface scratches, and general handling wear. The mount has edge and corner wear, along with a large area of moisture damage, peeling, and surface loss on the reverse. The reverse damage does not appear to extend through the front photograph. Please review all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the condition description.

An uncommon original document of San Francisco business, industrial, labor, retail, and footwear history. This is an original period photograph, not a modern reproduction.
