c1910 Pacific Northwest Lumber Camp Winter RPPC Loggers Horses Washington IdahoDescription:
Original early real photo postcard showing a winter lumber camp in the Pacific Northwest, believed from Washington or Idaho, although the exact location has not been identified. The photograph presents an exceptionally evocative logging-camp scene: a substantial log bunkhouse or camp building buried in deep snow, its long roof edged with heavy icicles, with smoke rising from the stovepipes and a group of lumbermen posed outside.
At the left are several work horses with the men, emphasizing the horse-powered era of logging before motorized equipment became standard. The rough-log construction, snowbound setting, work clothing, and camp arrangement make this a strong occupational image of the early timber industry rather than a generic scenic postcard.
The photographer\'s inscription in the negative at lower left reads“A Lumber Camp — 34 — in Winter”, apparently identifying the view as number 34 in a photographic series. No photographer or town is named on the card. The divided-back format, photographic style, clothing, and working-camp scene are consistent with approximately the1907-1915period.
The reverse is unused for postal service, with only the penciled name“Mr Edward Johnston”in the address area. Its Washington/Idaho attribution should therefore be regarded as provenance rather than a confirmed location. An especially desirable RPPC subject for collectors of Pacific Northwest logging, lumber camps, occupational photography, work horses, winter scenes, and early timber-industry history.
