Fallen Leaf Lake sits just south of Lake Tahoe in El Dorado County. Nathan Gilmore, who developed the Glen Alpine Springs resort on the lake\'s south end, carved wagon roads into the area at his own expense starting in the 1880s, opening the basin to tourists decades before automobiles arrived.An auto road to Glen Alpine didn\'t open until 1909.
