The Kirksville Savings Bank operated out of the Adair County seat in northeastern Missouri, listing T.C. Campbell as president, C.H. Dutcher as vice-president, and R.M. Ringo as cashier. This preprinted bank form acknowledged receipt of enclosures from F.J. Ricker, a prominent Quincy, Illinois banker.
The carrier delivery marking on the address side confirms the card was delivered directly to Ricker's office by a Quincy letter carrier the morning after it was mailed — next-day service across roughly 150 miles via the Quincy, Missouri & Pacific Railroad corridor.
F.J. Ricker was one of the most significant banking figures in Quincy's history. Born in Hanover, Germany, he came to Quincy with his parents in 1840 and purchased John Wood's banking interests in 1864. By 1876 he had opened his own bank at 413 Hampshire Street, and in 1881 he received a national charter for the Ricker National Bank, which eventually became the Quincy-Ricker National Bank & Trust Company. The card captures Ricker during his early independent banking years, well before the national charter that would cement his legacy.
This card documents the financial networks linking rural Missouri banks to established Illinois banking houses during the early National Banking era, with the carrier marking adding a layer of postal history significance.
