An original 8x10" vintage photo (NOT a modern reprint) from a large collection of hundreds of original movie photos acquired from a film business estate. Photo is from a a working collection used in a theater at one time for display.

Original 1965 black and white still from the MGM film Young Cassidy, showing Julie Christie and Rod Taylor sharing drinks with friends at a crowded Dublin pub bar. Rod Taylor, in the title role of John Cassidy (the screen version of Irish playwright Sean O\'Casey), sits on a bar stool in a worn corduroy jacket and flat cap, mouth open mid-song or mid-shout, glass in hand, while a companion in a tweed cap leans in beside him. Julie Christie, as the spirited Daisy Battles, laughs with a drink raised as a smiling barman in shirtsleeves, tie, and braces leans over the counter behind them.
The period saloon set is richly detailed, with a globe lamp, shelves of bottles, carved back bar, and framed advertising, capturing the working-class Dublin atmosphere of the film. This print was distributed in the Netherlands and carries an embossed Dutch film censorship board seal on the image, along with a Dutch distributor stamp on the back. A great piece for collectors of Julie Christie, Rod Taylor, John Ford, and Irish cinema.
Historical Notes
Young Cassidy was adapted from Sean O\'Casey\'s autobiographical writings and was begun by legendary director John Ford, who fell ill after only a couple of weeks of shooting in Dublin; cinematographer-turned-director Jack Cardiff completed the picture, though Ford retained a credit. O\'Casey himself died in September 1964, months before the film opened in 1965. The movie arrived at the exact moment Julie Christie became an international star: that same year she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Darling and starred as Lara in Doctor Zhivago, making 1965 her breakthrough year. Rod Taylor, already known for The Time Machine and Hitchcock\'s The Birds, considered Young Cassidy one of his proudest performances and continued a long career that ended with a memorable turn as Winston Churchill in Quentin Tarantino\'s Inglourious Basterds. The supporting cast included Maggie Smith, Edith Evans, Michael Redgrave, and Flora Robson.

Print analysis
This is an original silver gelatin 8x10 still printed at the time of the film\'s 1965 release. The YC-2 still code in the lower margin follows the standard studio numbering system for Young Cassidy publicity stills. The embossed Dutch censorship seal and the red HAFBO N.V. Amsterdam distributor stamp show this print was used for the film\'s Netherlands release in 1965, confirming it as a period Type 1 original.
Condition
In good to excellent vintage condition. Please see scans of the image we have provided for the most accurate and complete state of the photo. Some of the photos in this collection have tiny holes from staples in some of the corners from being displayed as part of a working set at a theater, so please check images.
