Description
The Yamamoto Nankin Kanna is a traditional Japanese woodworking plane used for curved surfaces, shaped work, and detailed wood finishing.
A nankin kanna is different from a standard flat smoothing plane. It is closer to a Japanese spokeshave-style plane and is used for working on rounded shapes, grooves, curved furniture parts, chair components, and other surfaces that are difficult to finish with a regular flat kanna.
This model has a 30mm / 1 sun blade width, making it a practical size for controlled curved-surface work. The blade is listed as Aogami No.2 / Blue Steel #2 with a very soft iron body, a traditional combination used in Japanese woodworking blades.
Yamamoto Kanna / 山本鉋作 is associated with Japanese hand planes for woodworking. This tool is suitable for woodworkers, furniture makers, chair makers, Japanese tool users, and collectors who understand traditional kanna sharpening and setup.
Choose this item if you need a Japanese nankin kanna for curved woodworking rather than a standard flat smoothing plane. If you need to flatten wide boards, a regular hira kanna / smoothing plane may be more suitable. If you need a tool that works immediately with minimal setup, a modern replaceable-blade plane may be easier.
Important: Japanese kanna often require sharpening, blade fitting, and body adjustment before serious use. Even when new, setup may be necessary depending on the user, wood, and desired finish.
