Vintage Lovely CREAMY VELVET SUITED Santa Claus Figure by Display Arts NYC. Rare to find one this brand, more so in a color other than red!
Hand painted face & blue eyes, gorgeous detail & coloring, natural wool curly beard. Stands 15" to top of his head, 18" to top of his hat. Suit accessories are a vinyl belt & hard, solid composite boots.
Not to be confused with a Harold Gale, this Santa is a mid-century Display Arts NYC Santa - marked on the bottom of his boots. Harold Gale Santas are rarely marked (I have several & there is a difference). Display Arts Santas were not produced heavily - too expensive, couldn't compete w/ the prolific Gales. They were beautifully made w/ excellent attention to detail. I only acquired this one because I was in the Christmas display business & talked a rep out of him for my collection. I love his jolly expression and presence. Lucky me to have enjoyed him for so many years, but it is time to pass on some of my treasures.
He stands independently, but not as solidly as I like to risk around my antique Christmas glass, so I put him in a stand. No tears, holes, repairs. His suit is without stains and never exposed to smoking. Fabric integrity is good. Age has toned the velvet color somewhat, but he was never a stark white costumed Santa to begin with.
