Offered is an original 1867 State of New Jersey Adjutant General\'s Office letter addressed to George A. Beardsley, late Captain of Company E, Veteran Regiment, Newark Brigade, N.G.N.J. Written on beautifully engraved New Jersey state letterhead (with state seal vignette), the document formally acknowledges the receipt and acceptance of Beardsley\'s resignation as Captain. It is dated Trenton, Sept. 27, 1867, and is boldly signed by William Scudder Stryker, Adjutant General of New Jersey - one of the most respected military administrators of the post-Civil War era. This is a historically rich piece tying directly to the post-Civil War reorganization of the New Jersey National Guard and to the career of Capt. Beardsley, who also served in the 13th New Jersey Volunteers during the Civil War. A fine example of late-19th-century state military correspondence. Approx. unfolded dimensions (in): 9.75 x 7.75.
